That I May Know You

On a certain Christian talk show, the host asked one of his guests, “What is God saying to you concerning the church? The man proceeded to tell the host what he believed God was saying to him. That is the same question that many Christians are asking themselves. What is God saying to me? I believe that a major area in which many sincere Christians struggle is in knowing when God is speaking to them. I remember hearing Christians say, “the Lord spoke to me,” and thinking “why does God always speak to them, and never speak to me?” Have you been there?

I, who always talk about forgiveness have recently learned a lesson on just that. Looking deep within ourselves is sometimes so very hard, because sometimes somewhere within the deep recesses of our being we have buried bias and self righteousness. I was wronged. Therefore I am right. We think we have it handled, but we don’t. If unforgiveness exists, you cannot truly possess love.

When you think about Jesus, giving His life for us it is hard to relate. At least it is for me because I have never actually had to give my life for another person. However, my sister would have.
I don’t remember the year, what I do remember is the pain of divorce and losing my son to divorce. Getting over his loss and the loss of my home and wife was turning out to be an impossible task. I kept drinking and started to experience consequences to my alcoholism. By now treatment centers, hospitals and the police seem to be constantly in my life. I heard your footsteps outside my door.
I heard a slight pause as you reached it.
Were you looking for me?
I knew it was you, I’m not sure how;
A girls intuition I suppose.
I felt a shiver down my spine.
I heard your footsteps walking by my door;
I heard a slight pause as you reached it.
Were you looking for me?
I heard you breathe as if your were going to knock
– but you sighed and kept walking.
I would let you in if you would only ask.
It would be so wonderful to share my thoughts with you.

As a minister and life purpose coach dealing intimately with people and their inner issues, I’ve seen and heard a lot. Most importantly, I’ve experienced suicidal tendencies and depression in my own life. At the age of 12 years old, I was so miserable and demoralized living with my step-mom far out in the country away from all my friends, I also contemplated killing myself.
Later as an adult when after 5 years of marriage, my ex-wife told me she had been having an affair and cheating on me, I experienced my own ground zero. Processing my pain and turning the mess into a message by way of a book that equally wrote me, I learned how to engineer a Breakthrough for a Broken Heart.

Giving, lets talk about this, because, it’s that time of year, when, most people are geared up to give presents, among family and friends. Being a kid at Christmas is in every one of us.
